Maybelline Baby Lips (New Bright Collection) in Tangerine Pop | Too Sheer for its Name

15 Oct

Every girl I know loves lip balms! And why shouldn’t we?

So when the famous Maybelline Baby Lips lip balms released their newest collection called “New Bright Collection,” I wanted to try one stat! Good thing the October 2013 BDJ Box included one in the color that I like — Tangerine Pop!

If you would notice, I love anything coral — from blushes to lipstick. I just think it looks good on someone with a yellow undertone like me. And with the catchy name this lip balm has, who wouldn’t want it, right?

Maybelline Baby Lips Color Lip Balm in Berry Crush | Berry Effective

20 Jun

The very first makeup product I ever used was a lip balm. I was introduced to it back when I was still six years old. From then on, lip balms have been a part of me. Back in high school, whether in school or not, I remember having my rosary, handkerchief, comb and lip balm in my pocket.

For my every day, I only use a lip balm or tinted lip balm. I have a lot of lip balms from various brands because I felt like it is really a need.

BDJ Box almost always puts in a lip product maybe because they think that, generally, lip products especially lip balms are a need for every girl. For the May BDJ Box, I was glad to see another lip balm!

Maybelline Baby Lips Color Lip Balm in Berry Crush was the one included in my box and I loved its shade and scent! I used this in the MNY 7-day challenge and if you want to see it, click here.

REVIEW: Carmex Moisturizing Lip Balm

13 Mar
Thanks to Glamourbox February box, I got my first ever Carmex Lip product. The full size sample I got is the Carmex Moisturizing Lip balm that is in a squeeze tube type. Actually there are two Carmex freebies – the jar type and the squeeze tube type.
Here is the picture of the product information at the back of the carton packaging:
Carmex products are easy to see because of their trademark colors: red and yellow. As you can see in the picture, the squeeze tube is yellow and the twist cap is red. I was excited to try this out so I gave my other lip balms a rest just to road test this one out. I just can’t get enough of this and I find myself using it more often than I thought I would.
For 109.75php, you get 10g of the product. Niiiccceee!
I like the simplicity of the product which suits users of any age and gender. The red cap is easy to use, twist to open and twist to close. It keeps the product clean and makes it very hygienic to use. You can swipe the tube directly on the lips when you’re on the go, just be careful not to squeeze too much so you will just use enough. You can also use your clean fingers to get a little amount from the tube then apply on your lips. I prefer using my fingers though so I can apply thoroughly.
I use it whenever  I feel my lips are starting to chap. I use it before going to bed and as soon as  I wake up the following morning.
I use it before heading out to do errands. I use it wherever I am actually. It gives off a cooling, tingling mentholated feel that subsides after 10minutes, give or take.
It does its job well — helps to moisturize lips and relieves dryness. I also love that it is not sticky at all. There was no heaviness or waxy feel on my lips. If you are keen on the ingredients, you have to be aware that there is petrolatum and salicylic acid in the ingredient. I would still give this a go but I still prefer organic products.
What I like:
(+) colors that standout and shout, “PICK ME!”
(+) the packaging would suit any gender who would want to use a lip balm
(+) easy to open twist cap
(+) complete information labeled at the back
(+) squeeze tubes are better than jars/tubs for hygienic purposes
(+) the round opening makes it easier to apply directly on the lips
(+) upon application, you will feel the cooling, tingling sensation because of the menthol
(+) not sticky, not waxy and not drying on the lips
(+) prevents dryness or chapped lips
(+) makes my lips soft and healthy looking
(+) heals chapped lips due to extreme temperatures
(+) may last for three months because a little goes a long way (depends on the usage)
(+) affordable for 109php/10g
What I wish:
(-) its ingredients would be on the organic side (no pertrolatum and salicylic acid)
(-) it has SPF
(-) it comes in bigger sizes for home use
OVERALL: I love this lip balm! It relieves dryness, moisturizes lips and keeps it healthy-looking.
Will I repurchase? Maybe. I am more of an organic gal and prefers to use organic products.

Will I recommend this? Yes! This is good for anyone of any age who needs a lip balm to moisturize lips and relieve dryness and chapping.

REVIEW: Snoe Beauty Beso Balm

20 Feb

This free full-size sample (which costs 149php) came from the BDJ Dec-Jan Box and I was so thrilled because I’ve been hearing good reviews about this. Beso Balm is one of Snoe’s best sellers!

Now it’s my time to review it.

Product Description:

Plumps. Soothes. Protects. Freshens breath.

INSTRUCTIONS: Use before kissing or whenever you feel like it!

INGREDIENTS: Coconut oil, Sunflower seed oil, Beeswax, Spearmint leaf oil, Shea butter, Tocopheryl Acetate, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Menthol, Benzophenone 3, Blue 1 (CI42090), Yellow 5 (CI19140)

???????????????????????????????When I first opened it, I was surprised to see granules on the balm. I wasn’t sure if it’s expired or something because there’s no expiration date in the tube. Anyway, I still tried it on.

It is a green balm that is in a regular lip balm tube. It strikes a perfect balance between wax and oil which is a good thing.

I love how this lip balm glides on my lips, though I felt my lips were being scrubbed because of the ‘granules’. In an instant, I felt the cooling minty sensation that gave me a feel that my lips became plump. It didn’t really freshened the breath, it just sort of cools the inside of the mouth. The cooling and breath ‘freshening’ lasted only until the minty sensation came off. I think its good for about 10minutes.

I love how it makes my lips feel soft and hydrated. I just can’t stand the granules at all. It’s like sugar has been added to this. I wipe off the granules/scrub and just be satisfied with what’s left on my lips. Because of this, I don’t use this as often as I would want to. It just feels uncomfortable putting on a ‘lip scrub’ all the time.

What I like about this:

(+) it is from Snoe Beauty!

(+) mentholated feel and taste

(+) goes on sheer

(+) has a cute packaging
(+) it comes in a tube so it’s more hygienic
(+) not greasy, not waxy, not oily – it’s just right
(+) affordable for 149php
(+) available in stores/kiosks/online
What I didn’t like:
(-) the granules. I think there’s something wrong with what they sent me. I believe other Snoe Beso Balm doesn’t have this sugary scrub effect.
(-) it has no SPF
Will I purchase? Maybe. I think I’ll check out Snoe beauty kiosks for one that has no granules like mine.
