Unboxing April 2014 BDJ Box | Exclusive Pixy (Truly Asian Beauty) Box

15 Apr

I attended a Baccalaureate mass last Saturday and commuting home left me lightheaded. It somehow disappeared when I saw this in our living room, waiting for me. Actually I got 2 packages yesterday – one from Sample Room and one from BDJ Box.

I lifted the April BDJ Box and became giddy when it felt heavy again! YAY! Became excited when I saw an Exclusive BDJ Box from a new makeup brand in the Philippines, PIXY. No doubt BDJ Box is the first to let us Bellas try the said brand. This new brand is an Indonesian cosmetics line which is formulated using Japanese technology and ingredients. Truly made for Asian skin, agree?

Ellana Lip and Cheek Gel in Ruby | Are you Red-y?!

8 Mar

Ellana Cosmetics is another brand which is proudly Pinoy made. It recently made a comeback, which caters improved and new products. I haven’t tried any of them yet until BDJ Box included one of its bestsellers in the January-February BDJ Box.

The shade I got was Ruby and from the bottle, it looks bloody red with blue undertone. I love the functionality of the packaging. It is a pump plastic bottle which can withstand falls. The pump, on the other hand, has no cover but it locks as you twist it – making it very travel friendly! The drawing / label design looks very sophisticated and feminine!

Unboxing November 2013 BDJ Box

7 Nov

It is such a surprise to get the BDJ Box this early!!! Usually, BDJ Boxes arrive mid month, every month. The November box was an exception because some already received this Nov4 or even earlier.

I was so excited because for the first time, I am going to receive two boxes. 🙂 I won the BDJ Box 7-day Challenge last September. If you want to know which product I used, you can view it here.

“Blushing Beauty” is this month’s theme. With that, the BDJ Box team put together products designed to get us Bellas blushing.

REVIEW: Shawill Showcase Blusher in Natural Beige

14 Mar

This Shawill blush has been with me since late 2011 and its just now that I am going to review it. I wasn’t able to include the box because I cannot find it in my stash. I rarely throw anything, even the boxes, but this one might have been misplaced in the closet.

What made me notice this is its very cute and girly packaging. The packaging is a combination of pink and white with the logo Shawill printed on the cover. The bottom part is pink and the cover is a translucent white with a flower embossed on it. This compact is very handy too yet a bit bulky on the top.

It comes with a puff that I loved then because it was easy to use. (Now I prefer using brushes in applying blush).  There is a divider inside the case which serves as the house of the puff for hygienic purposes. Under the divider lies a mirror which is great if you are going to bring this for travels.

the mirror under the powder puff house

the mirror under the powder puff house

What’s more amazing is that this blusher is only worth 99php. I remember swatching the 7 shades and I can’t decide which to buy. I finally settled on shade 07 Natural Beige because I don’t have this shade yet. Actually for the price, you actually get more!

The flower embossed on the cover is the same with the flower embossed on the blush itself.

Natural Beige matches my skin tone well. It is very pigmented, that a little amount is enough to give a flushed cheek. It is not chalky at all! It lasts long and doesn’t melt even if there is no primer used. It is easy to apply with a brush or the puff that comes with it. Though this is not a mineral makeup, I find myself grabbing it because it is so handy and useful. If I am in a hurry the first blush that comes to my mind is this and so I grab it and tote it in my bag.

Most blushes in the market are powdery and glittery. This one is different. It is a matte blush which is a neutral-peachy-pink-bronzer shade that works well for daytime use at work or in school (if makeup is allowed!). It is as its name: Natural Beige. It looks so natural!

There is just this powdery makeup smell (the trademark scent that usual makeups have) but it is negligible and the scent doesn’t last at all.

What I like:

(+) cute, eye-catching packaging

(+) sturdy enough to survive falls and drops

(+) easy to open and close cover

(+) comes with a mirror under the “house” of the puff

(+) it comes with a powder puff which is useful

(+) there is a separate compartment for the puff

(+) there are 7 shades to choose from

matte blush with a bit of ‘frost’

(+) very pigmented and lasts long

(+) looks so natural

(+) easy to apply

(+) may last for years since a little goes a long way (depends on the usage)

(+) longer expiration date than mineral makeups

(+) affordable for 99php/4g of blush

What I wish:
(-) its ingredients would be on the organic side
(-) it has SPF
(-) it has no scent
(-) it will be not as bulky as it is
(-) it comes with a better puff/ brush

Will I recommend it? Yes, for girls and ladies who are looking for quality makeup products without the high price tag!

Will I repurchase? Maybe, but I will try the other shades.

DIY: How to Make Cream Blush

7 Feb

Here I am with another DIY 🙂

Cream blushes stay longer than a powder blush. Unfortunately, I don’t have any cream blushes right now  so I just made one myself.
Please check this out if you want to know how.
    1. Prepare the things you will need:
    • empty container
    • any moisturizer
    • pigments (different shades of blushes or eyeshadow, highllighter, bronaer)
    • toothpick (for mixing and scooping)
    • tissue (for cleaning/wiping mess)
    • makeup setting spray
    used Human Nature blush case

blushes (from Human Nature, Avon, Krave) highlighter (from Avon), bronzer (fromnElianto)

setting spray (from Krave), toothpiock, Moisturizer (Cetaphil Lotion)

    2. In an empty container, use a toothpick to scrape and scoop your chosen pigments. I chose Human Nature Blush in Petal Bloom, Elianto Bronzer, Krave Blush Krush in Pink Muffin. You can use any kind of powder blush (loose or pressed, mineral or not). You can use multiple colors so you can mix them and get a new blush

IMG_00373. Optional: You can add highlighter/illuminating powder. Be careful not to put too much.

    4. Add your chosen moisturizer (about a teaspoon) to the blush powder mix and stir completely with a toothpick.

a squeeze of Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion

    5.  You can add more pigments if you want it be really pigmented. Add more moisturizer or pigment to achieve your desired blend. Stir until the pigments and moisturizer are thoroughly mixed.

    stir stir stir! :)

    stir stir stir! 🙂

    6. Using a toothpick, flatten the cream blush and clean up the sides of the container with a tissue.

    7. Optional: You can spritz some makeup setting spray to set the concoction.

REVIEW: The Body Shop’s Lily Cole Lip and Cheek Dome

    15 Jan

After having seen a facebook post from my friend, Madeth Javillo, that the lip and cheek dome are now at 70% off, I stopped by The Body Shop while we were in SM North Edsa. I was a bit upset because the lip and cheek domes are no longer available in the main building. I tried stopping by another TBS branch in The Block, I found that there were only a few left. Of course, hubby treated me again! Thanks!

IMG_0591I got both shades, Crazy for Coral and Pinch me Pink.

Here are some info from The Body Shop:
Cream-to-powder colour for lips and cheeks that’s easy to wear and easy to blend. Wear it just as it is or under lip gloss. They’re limited edition so don’t miss out. Catch them while you can. For lips and cheeks Natural-looking colour Dermatologically tested. Limited edition.
Polyethylene (Opacifier), Caprylyl Methicone (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Emollient), Talc (Absorbent/Bulking Agent), Propanediol Dicaprylate (Skin Conditioning Agent – Emollient), Polymethyl Methacrylate (Emollient), Isohexadecane (Emollient/Solvent), Ethylhexyl Palmitate (Skin Conditioning Agent), Stearalkonium Hectorite (Viscosity Modifier), Cerotyl Dimethicone (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Cetyl Dimethicone (Skin-Conditioning Agent), Tridecyl Trimellitate (Skin-Conditioning Agent – Occlusive), Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate (Skin Conditioning Agent/Emollient), Propylene Carbonate (Solvent), Mica (Opacifier), Cera Alba/Beeswax/Cire d’abeille (Emulsifier/Emollient), Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil (Skin Conditioning Agent), Tocopheryl Acetate (Antioxidant), Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate (Antioxidant), Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate (Emollient). [+/- CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide (Colour), CI 45380/Red 22 Lake (Colour), CI 19140/Yellow 5 Lake (Colour), CI 77491/Iron Oxides (Colour), CI 15850/Red 7 Lake (Colour)].
Dab onto lips or cheeks straight from the dome. Blend using clean fingertips. Layer to build up colour.
Star Ingredients: Community Fair Trade beeswax Community Fair Trade marula oil (Our Community Fair Trade marula oil comes from the Eudafano Women’s Co-operative in Namibia. Marula fruits are hand-selected, the nuts are extracted and dried in the sun. The kernels are cold-pressed to release the oil. By setting up their own factory, the 5,000 women members have gained entrepreneurial skills and, they tell us, a newfound self-esteem.)
I love blushes because they easily add color to skin.  Cream blushes are the best to use to give the most natural flush. They don’t come off easily too. I loved using them before but have stayed away from cream blushes for awhile because I can’t seem to master how it is applied. It is so easy to say ‘dab and blend’ but I always get streaks, an obvious sign of a cream blush.
Here I am again, trying out a cream blush (or two!) for my love for makeup. Who can resist the unique, cute packaging and the 70% off to boot? Definitely not me!
Crazy for Coral and Pinch me Pink

Crazy for Coral and Pinch me Pink

This is just so cute. I advise you use a transparent kikay kit so you will be more inspired whenever you get a glimpse of it.

It comes with a clear cover that you have to carefully handle when opening and closing the product. I am always careful not to get the dome destroyed because of the cover.
Crazy for Coral is a sheer peach color that gives a subtle color to cheeks. I think this will work well if blended with a bronzer, giving a summer-y look.
Pinch me Pink is a sheer pink shade that will look good on any skin tone. When blended, it looks so natural. It’s like you’ve just hit the gym. I think it gives off the kind of blush you have when your crush/boyfriend/fiance/husband gave you a very sweet compliment.
The product weighs 10ml, quite hefty I think. I got these for 268php each.
    Here are the swatches:
when blended wellCrazy for Coral (above) and Pinch me Pink (below)

    when blended well
Crazy for Coral (above) and Pinch me Pink (below)

It has a creamy texture which can be blended easily. It is not very pigmented but you can add more product until you get the color that you want to achieve. It is fine with me because I’d rather layer more than apply a very pigmented product then trying to erase some of it.

Here’s a summary of my likes and dislikes:

(+) The Body Shop products are l-o-v-e!

(+) very unique and has cute packaging

(+) can fit in any purse and can be easily brought anywhere

(+) easy to apply and blend

    (+) cream to powder finish

(+) gives a sheer color to the cheeks

(-) not very pigmented, but you can always add more to get the color that you want.

(-) pricey, but it’s at 70% off now! (Grab ’em while you can!)

    (-)limited edition

You can still check out The Body Shop’s branches if you want to get your own! 🙂

    KRAVE Mineral Cosmeceuticals

    5 Sep

I was watching ShopTalk on ANC and got intrigued on one of their guest speakers. It was the first time I knew of Krave Mineral Cosmeceuticals. I became really interested in their products which were PETA approved and certified ‘cruelty free’, just like Human Nature.

The famous products they have are the oil eliminator and skin hydrator, organic liquid foundation, and complexion perfection powder. What made me really look forward to knowing more about Krave is that they have organic SPF in most of their products. So I watched and listened carefully while Shoptalk is ongoing.

The next day, I searched for Krave on the internet. I was surprised to see that it was already popular especially with bloggers. I knew I had to be part of it and was really looking forward to experiencing Krave.

I registered and sent an application which was screened and processed thoroughly by their staff. After a week, I received a text message from them that I was one of the few passers! Woot woot! I was really giddy and followed their instructions gladly.

And on September4, I finally got hold of my Krave distributor’s package! YIPPEE!!! I am so excited to try them out! 🙂

    Human Heart Nature Mineral Blush

    23 Aug

    Human Heart Nature Mineral Blush

I have a confession – I am addicted to blushes. I love them to bits because it easily lightens up any face. It cheats a perfect flush for us girls.

I made sure that I purchased the HHN mineral blush since I am confident it is only the good I will be getting. I went to HHN Manila to swatch the blushes and pick out one that suits me really well… but I ended up getting all the shades! I can’t make up my mind and decided that I complete the four.

Human Nature Mineral Blushes (cute packaging)

CLAIMS: This lightweight, sheer mineral blush has Vitamin E antioxidants for healthy skin. Its silky texture glides on smoothly and doesn’t wear off easily, giving you a healthy-looking glow from morning till night.

    without flash

The shades include Tropical Rose, Petal Bloom, Pink Quartz and Rosy Cheeks. I can’t pick out a favorite though since I love each equally. I just pick the shade I am going to use depending on my mood.

    closer look on the swatches

closer look on the blushes’ names

I use a fan brush when applying this because I think it gives more color and blends better than the kabuki brush. It is very easy to apply and goes on smoothly every time. The powder formula sets perfectly on my skin giving it a natural, healthy glow. It is pigmented, semi-matte, semi-luminous, yet very easy to blend. There is also no room for mistakes with this product since it can’t look overdone, whatever shade I am using. This one’s definitely a keeper!

swatches from L-R: Tropical Rose, Pink Quartz, Rosy Cheeks, Petal Bloom

    (+) has vitamin E!

    (+) sheer yet buildable shades

    (+) cute purple packaging

    (+) affordable!

(-) no mirror and brush included

    (-) no SPF

    (-) only 4 shades available
